Mission Viejo Television has developed staggering programming about a topic no parent ever wants to face: prescription drug abuse among children.
Prescription drug abuse among children in our community continues to grow at alarming rates. In fact, it is a national epidemic, according to the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention. Because of that, the award-winning MVTV station has developed the four-part series “An Invisible Line: Teen Drug Abuse in our Community” covering just a slice of what is happening in Mission Viejo.
In Part 1: “These Are Not Statistics,” viewers will learn the stark reality of the true dangers of prescription drugs; the ages of experimentation for youth; and the potential warning signs for parents to look for in their children.
The show features in-depth interviews with local physicians, law enforcement, the director of a rehabilitation center, a pharmacist, parents of addicts, and many others whose lives have been impacted by this harrowing issue.
“Addiction has no discrimination,” said Gil Carmona, director of Phoenix House Drug Addiction Treatment Center.
Jodi Barber, whose child struggled with addiction, agrees.
“It’s everywhere … It can be your straight-A student, your cheerleader, your football player,” she said. “Nobody is immune to this.”
The first part of the series airs at 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Mission Viejo Television is available on Cox Channel 30 or AT&T U-Verse Channel 99.
